I use iDeduper (http://www.ideduper.com) on Windows and iMDeduper (http://imdeduper.vistanita.com) on Mac. Both save my time from deleting duplicates manually.

Hi Guys,
I'm not an ipod user however my wife is. I upgraded to windows 7 and found that her Ipod no longer conected to anything. Fortunatly I had backed up her library before the upgrade. After some fairly intense nagging I finally agreed to put itunes back on the computer. It immediatly searched everywhere and found all the music on the computer. This included all the various back ups I have made and I found we had 4 copies of the same track which I couldn't simply get rid off. I researched this on the web and came to this site which didn't really help as all my music was added last night. I have however now solved it. I went into my music file and deleted the current library entirely and then pointed itunes to the specific backup I wanted it to see. Voila 1 copy of each track. Hope this helps. :-)

I just used http://www.yamipod.com/ to get rid of my dupes on IPOD. It got rid of over 1000 of them. It did miss a few though, but it saves me loads of time. My IPOD has over 20,000 songs (160GB) and it did take a very hours but it was running in the background. Recommended.

Does anyone know how to get rid of dupes from an ipod itself, not from itunes? I ripped some CDs and synced them to my ipod, then I amended the groups and genres in itunes, but of course when i synced again, they reimported because they were seen as different tracks. If there were a way to delete from the ipod that would be fab.

Also, if anyone has any thoughts on how to deal with classical music in itunes, i'd be pleased to know. it seems that itunes is great for pop, jazz etc, but not for classical music. For example, I want all 3 movts of a piece to be played together and not viewed as 3 individual songs. Also, it's great to be able to search by composer, but annoying that I get Bach, Beastie Boys, Beethoven! Any thoughts appreciated!

MediaMonkey has neat script which finds duplicates both by hash value or metadata. It does everything you want plus more.

I have run out of C drive space on my lap top due to importing thousands of songs.
I have heaps of room on my d drive though and would like to place itunes and library etc over to that.
How do I do this without losing all the sync songs I have already done on my ipod?
Many thanks for your help - I just got an ipod classic as a gift.
