I’m getting pretty close to buying the Cingular 8125 cell phone, and, in the process, switching from Sprint to Cingular. Advice or input?
The whole world of “Mobile” is about to get much much more exciting in the US in the next 18 months, and I’d like to be with a carrier and on a device that lets me experiement with as much of it as possible. Is this the carries, the device?
I’m moving from an old Treo (the 600), so it’s also a switch from Palm OS to Windows. Any words of advice in that regard?

Buy an extra charger for work.

I think as far as the carriers are concerned, the only real difference will be in customer service. I’ve had good experience with quality of service on both carriers. What it’ll really come down to is the device you choose. I have a Sprint phone — Windows Pocket PC-based — that performs relatively well, but the quality of construction leaves a lot to be desired (It’s a company phone). I have a friend who is also running Windows PPC that is crash-prone. It’s the same version of the software, but the hardware apparently has issues.
If you can, try before you buy.

One piece of advice I’d give is to not switch from Palm OS to Windows PPC. My guess is you’ll probably regret it in the long run.

I have no regretted switching from sprint to cingular, the coverage is awesome. the ppl in the stores can be morons, but the phone service is damn good. The treo 700 is coming out for GPS wiht the palm OS this winter, or you can have it now at verizon– also a good network. I can’t stand switching devices; it makes my head hurt. All those buttons that don’t do what I expect them to…

I own the 8125 and I have been with cingular for a number of years. I love my new phone and I would recommend this phone to anyone looking for a crossover device. I also have never had a problem with my cingular service the only place that I don’t have a signal is way out in the woods and no one else that I know was getting a signal at the time so I think that was pretty good ( that includes sprint and verizon). The only think that I don’t like about Cingular is that they don’t have unlimited text messaging, with the wifi on the 8125 i didn’t need to purchase the data plan because my work, school, and home all have wireless access. So I am usually near a hotspot. Over all I really like this phone and I love my service.

I own this phone and if you plan to do anything cool, expect to wait and wait and wait…. for the pages or apps to load. The device has minimal memory, a non-intel processor, and sucks the battery power down in one day. Forget to charge it overnight? Then forget about using it. I love the phone, the size, the Windows Mobile, it’s all good… wish it came with Flash Player though but you have to buy that.

I really like my 8125. It is great for a crossover tool. I am having problems with learning how to down load pod casts and music though. Any help?

I bought the Cingular 8125 and just as with HP the rebates SUCK. YOU MAY get a partial rebate…or wait 6 weeks to have paperwork come in to tell you part of the info was missing and you don’t get your rebate. BULL! I think it’s a way for the companies to keep from rebateing.
I am having problems getting my laptop to connect- am SURE it is MY limited knowledge of the phone’s usability. Also want to down load a voice GPS but am having problems finding that online so I ended up here.
3rd thing I’d like info on. I have a Zire 72 that I would love to export it’s data to the 8125. Can anyone HELP me? Please?

I just switched from Tmobile to Cingular and i am happy with the service. With Tmobile i never got signal in my office despite it being in the middle of Manhattan. And the device itself - Cingular 8125 is just phenomenal. It’s everything i always wanted in a device. True convergence.
phone, movies, music, photos, camera, games, microsoft office docs and wifi all in one great device.
Here are some of the things i have been able to do with my phone -
Use its built in wi-fi to surf from starbucks looking all important and stuff.
downloaded contacts from my old palm device using Infra red.
downloaded contacts from my old sony T610 phone using bluetooth.
Voice dialed using bluetooth
downloaded my hotmail, and yahoo-plus emails while being connected to the PC using the build in MSN mobile and messaging application for offline reading.
Used a free application (from pdagold.com) to use my 8125 phone as a remote for the windows media player running on my desktop (via wifi)
used a free application , again from pdagold.com, to stream my itunes library from my desktop to my 8125 phone over wifi.
listen to music or watch movies (ripped from DVD and stored on the SD card).
via a wifi connection used the mouse and keyboard on my desktop to input data into my 8125 phone.
read boooks using mobipocket and free books downloaded from project Gutenberg website.
synced 8125 to outlook emails / contacts / notes and calender on my dekstop.
